Governance and structure

Faculty Board (Fakultetsstyrelsen)

The Faculty Board has overall responsibility for the mission and vision, long-term strategy, funding and allocation of resources, recruitment and staffing, educational portfolio, quality of teaching, and research issues at LUSEM.

A number of sub-committees reports to the Board:

  • Appointments Council (Lärarförslagsnämnd)
  • Affirmative Action Council (Kommitté för jämställdhet och likabehandling)
  • Education Council (Utbildningskollegiet)
  • Research Education Council (Forskarutbildningskollegiet)
  • Health, Environment and Security Council (HMS-kommitté)
  • Research Council (Forskningskollegiet)

The Management Team (Fakultetsledningen)

The Management Team of the School consists of the Dean, two vice Deans, the Head of the Dean's Office and the Head of External Relations. The Dean is responsible for the School's strategy (including its implementation) and the School's relationship with the society and business community. The Dean also has the formal responsibility for staffing, financial administration, infrastructure etc.

Senior Management Council (Prefektgruppen)

The Management Team is advised and supported by the Senior Management Council, composed of Heads of departments and research centres. Each department elects its own Department Board. Responsibility for budgets is delegated to the Heads of department who report to the Dean.

Senior Corporate Advisory Board (Rådgivande kommittén)

In order to make sure that the School has a sounding board of input from society and from the business sector at large, the School also has a Senior Corporate Advisory Board. The Senior Corporate Advisory Board meets twice a year and discusses and provides input on strategically important issues.

International Advisory Board

The International Advisory Board is composed of top-level international researchers, in most cases with university management experience, and a corporate member. It deals with long-term strategic issues with an emphasis on the School’s international positioning.

Boards and committees

Except for the faculty board LUSEM has several other boards and committees like Research education council and The appointments board.

A matrix structure

The School is working in a matrix structure with on the one hand departments, and on the other hand activity spheres (e.g. undergraduate programmes, master's programmes, PhD programmes, and Centres of Excellence).

A number of sub-committees prepare and discuss concerns in educational and research questions before such questions are decided either by the Faculty Board, by the Dean, or the Management Team, e.g. the Education Council, the Research Education Council, and the Research Council.
