Application and admission
The application for a PhD programme is made directly to the departments. Both the procedure and the application periods vary between the departments.
In Sweden, all recruitment has to take place in open competition. Hence, all PhD positions need to be publicly advertised. Neither self-financed PhD studies nor personal sponsors are allowed.
Announcements
All PhD positions are announced on the Lund University job portal.
Stipends, when available, are advertised by the departments.
Application period
Some departments at LUSEM have set application periods, usually during spring and/or autumn. Others advertise their vacancies as and when a position arises. More information can be found on each department’s webpage.
When applying to a PhD programme at LUSEM, the application form in the menu to the right is to be used.
Entry requirements
A person meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if he or she has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
The specific entry requirements are faculty- and subject-specific. As a general standard for specific entry requirements at LUSEM, doctoral students must have completed course assignments of at least 90 credits and an independent project worth at least 15 credits in a subject relevant to the research programme, or have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. Other standards for specific entry requirements are stated in the general syllabus for each subject.
