Workshop on Publishing Entrepreneurship Research

- The ‘why’, the ‘where’, and the ‘how’

The workshop consists of four modules from August to November 2018.

Description of workshop

Early career faculty is often under pressure to publish in order to secure for future career development. Promotion systems for academics stress the significance of individual contributions based on publications, primarily in academic journals. The competition to publish entrepreneurship research in academic journals has at the same time becoming fiercer, with a growing number of scholars seeking to publish their work in a relatively stable number of leading outlets.

Adding to this, the number of lower ranked journals is increasing, and early career scholars may find it hard to navigate the journal eco-system when seeking acceptable and meritorious outlets for their work. Thus, a successful academic career is much dependent on knowledge and skills of how to manage the publication process, where career advancement and scholarly reputation are intimately tied to being able to publish in leading journals.

Target audience

This workshop is targeted to early career faculty - PhD students and post docs - who aspire to publish their research in leading entrepreneurship outlets, now or in the near future. The workshop will provide insights into the research publication process, as well as offering practical hands-on advice for managing the review process.

The workshop is a collaboration between faculty at the Sten K Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship (SKJCE) at Lund University, and the Department of Business Studies at Halmstad University. The collaboration is a means to support networking, mobility and knowledge exchange between entrepreneurship scholars in Southern Sweden.

The workshop builds on active participation and require attendance in all four modules, as well as home assignments between the modules. We assess the workload as being equivalent to 3 university credits/ECTS. A certification of attendance will be written on request after completion of the workshop.

Learning outcomes

The workshop aims to help participants to understand the system and process of academic publishing in entrepreneurship, and to develop knowledge about the publication process; from positioning their research in relation to the publication opportunities to managing the review process.
